I know I sometimes have a strange opinion about things like this, but here goes.

I personally am not offended by this ad at all. In fact, I would like to applaud McDonald's for being REAL and not trying to mask the reality of what it is like being adopted. You just can't be "politically correct" with a situation that in reality, brings issues and loss to the experience. Adopted kids DON'T look like the other members of their "family", so why try to deny or ignore that fact and ask society to be "politically correct" and further disenfranchise the adopted child's grief even further, by reinforcing the denial of differences and loss? That is exactly what the "positive" adoption language does. It disenfranchises the adopted person's experience altogether and then the child is forced to "stuff" their REALITY because it is uncomfortable for their new parents and society, who is trying to live "as if" that child was born to them, when it just isn't so.

My Spiritual Umbilical Cord

Passage Hebrews 6:19:
[Now] we have this [hope] as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul [it cannot slip and it cannot break down--a hope] that reaches farther and enters into [the very certainty of the Presence] within the veil.

At the Women's Bible Study I've been attending, we are studying the Holy of Holies and how God has given us free access into His very presence and LOVE through Jesus.

One verse really stood out to me ~ Hebrews 6:19 ~ The teacher even referred to it as our spiritual umbilical cord!

With one cut of that cord, almost 40 years ago, I lost my Mother. My only source of nourishment, identity, security, and comfort. Some adoptees speak of feeling like they are "floating" in thin air, forever searching and not able to feel grounded in life, because of this primal loss and how it dramatically affects our development, from day one.

I remember having troubled dreams as a little girl of flying around the universe on some type of journey or search, only never able to find what I had lost ~ just continually flying among the stars in search of something, but who knows what.

This scripture, if we can open our hearts to believe it, answers this need in our souls. We have an ANCHOR ~ a Spiritual Cord, or Life-line ~ which FOREVER ties us to the very throne of God, behind the veil (the veil is anything that keeps us from being able to completely see, understand, or know Him) right into His presence, His Love.

NOTHING ~ in Heaven or Earth ~ can EVER break this strong CONNECTION which wraps securely around us and is held by Him, our Creator, Father (NOT adoptive Father, by the way ~ I John 3:9 says that God's "seed" or "sperma" lives in us when we are born of God ~ He is our CREATOR and FATHER, we're created in His image and likeness ~ He is our HEAVENLY FATHER and HE IS UNCONDITIONAL LOVE ~ I WILL NEVER LEAVE YOU OR FORSAKE YOU).

Just like our natural umbilical cord provides breath, nourishment, security, and connection to our natural mother, so our spiritual connection to our Creator (through faith in Jesus) CAN NEVER BE CUT, and will CONTINUALLY provide us with LIFE and CONNECTION to the Love, acceptance, and nourishment that we all crave.

I'm so thankful for this and for the comfort of experiencing such a strong, eternal connection to my REAL Father and LIFE.

Isaiah 66:13 ~ "I will comfort you like a mother comforts her child, and you will be comforted."

To My Brother

I don't want anything from you
Just your acceptance & grace
For you to want me for who I am ~
Your blood sister in the human race.

I grew up without you, and lonely
No siblings to call my own
Yet we lived in the very same city
and knew not of each other's homes

We seem so much alike, it's uncanny
Look & act the same too!
Such similar tastes and disposition
I wish you wanted to know me, as I'd love to know you.

I guess when you grow up in your birth family
And haven't walked in other shoes
You can't understand the deep need inside
To just "be" yourself in the family line.

Yet, I'm so thankful I've met you
And have at least looked on your face
To finally see myself in others
Brings healing, identity & grace.
